Vaccines have played a critical role in improving population health for generations, yet historical inequities, medical mistrust, and unequal access continue to shape how vaccines are experienced by many communities today, particularly vulnerable and historically underserved population. This session will explore the present, history, and future of vaccines in the US and how past public health practices influence present-day trust and decision-making. Centering family perspectives and community experience, the session will highlight how SC Families for Vaccines works alongside families and local partners to support vaccine confidence and access, especially among populations most impacted by health disparities.

State-Only Webinar: State CHW Policy 101
In a rapidly changing health policy landscape, community health workers (CHWs) remain a key workforce that connects people from their communities to health and social resources. Along with contributing to improved health outcomes, research shows that CHW services are cost-effective. States have been advancing strategies to increase access to CHW services through state policies, programs, and coverage approaches.
This state-only webinar will introduce state officials to the basics of the state CHW policy space, including understanding the role of CHWs from a CHW perspective, CHW engagement in policy and program design, Medicaid reimbursement strategies, certification and training, and common challenges that states experience during policy development and implementation.
During the webinar, state officials will engage with other states, CHWs, thought leaders, and other subject matter experts in a Q&A panel.

This session examines the often-overlooked connection between Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)/Domestic Violence (DV) and brain injury, with a focus on equipping Community Health Workers with the knowledge to better serve affected individuals. Participants will explore various types of abuse, identify demographics at increased risk for IPV/DV, and understand how brain injuries can result from such violence. The session also covers common symptoms of brain injury, strategies for working effectively with clients who may be affected, and key IPV/DV resources and hotlines available to support survivors.

July CHW CoLab | The Bidirectional Relationship of Opioid Overdose and Brain Injury
This session breaks down the connection between opioid overdose and brain injury in a way that makes sense for the day-to-day work of Community Health Workers. It covers what puts someone at risk for opioid or substance use disorders, how to spot common signs of brain injury, and how brain injuries can affect the care and support clients need. CHWs will also learn helpful ways to work with clients who have brain injury and get connected to important opioid abuse resources and hotlines.
