October CHW CoLab | Improving Access and Outcomes for Perinatal Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Through Collaborative Support

This webinar will highlight strategies to improve care for perinatal individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance use disorders. Presenters will discuss approaches such as peer support, Peer Recovery Doulas, culturally responsive practices, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Attendees will also explore ways to expand access in rural and underserved communities, with real-world examples of innovative programs currently serving birthing individuals in South Carolina.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify strategies to increase engagement and retention in care for perinatal individuals with SUD, including peer support, Peer Recovery Doulas, and culturally responsive practices.

  • Recognize the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in improving perinatal mental health and recovery outcomes.

  • Identify ways to improve access to care for perinatal individuals of many backgrounds, including those living in rural or underserved areas. 

  • Provide contextualized examples of the ways in which novel mental health and substance use screening and access to care programs are being utilized for birthing individuals in South Carolina.
