This session examines the often-overlooked connection between Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)/Domestic Violence (DV) and brain injury, with a focus on equipping Community Health Workers with the knowledge to better serve affected individuals. Participants will explore various types of abuse, identify demographics at increased risk for IPV/DV, and understand how brain injuries can result from such violence. The session also covers common symptoms of brain injury, strategies for working effectively with clients who may be affected, and key IPV/DV resources and hotlines available to support survivors.
Objectives: At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
Identify and display knowledge of different types of abuse.
Identify demographics with higher risk factors for Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence.
Understand the connection between Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence and Brain Injury.
Recognize common Brain Injury symptoms.
Identify ways to work with clients with BI and how that may impact seeking resources.
